George Brooks (1819–1861)

George was born on 22 May, 1819 in the parish of Weybread in Suffolk, Englanda1, the only known son of Rebecca Brooks (1795–?)★. His father is not known. He was baptised as an infant on 25 Jul, 1819 in Weybreada1. He is Ian's 3x great grandfather.

He married Frances Snowling (1819–1885)★, a servant, on 31 Jan, 1839 in the parish of Fressingfield in Suffolk, Englandb1 . They had six children:–

  • William baptised on 12 May, 1839 in Fressingfielda2.
  • Rebecca★ baptised on 3 Oct, 1841 in the parish of Withersdale in Suffolk, Englanda3. Married William Chambers★ on 5 Feb, 1860 at The Register Office in Hoxne, Suffolk, Englandb2. Died on 24 Aug, 1881 in the parish of Wilby in Suffolk, Englandb3 at the age of forty.
  • Anna Maria baptised on 14 Apr, 1844 in the parish of Mendham in Suffolk, Englanda4.
  • James died age three. Baptised on 5 Apr, 1846 in Mendhama5. Buried on 9 Sep, 1849 in the parish of Metfield in Suffolk, Englandc1.
  • Sarah Ann born in the Jul-Sep quarter of 1847 in Mendhamd1.
  • Betsy born in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1850 in Mendhamd2.

By the time of the 1851 census he was living in Mendhame1 with his wife Frances and five children Rebecca, William, Anna Maria, Sarah Ann and Betsy.

In the 1861 census he was living in Mendhamf1 with his wife Frances and daughter Betsy.

George died at the age of forty-two on 24 May, 1861 in Mendhamb4. His death was attributed to "consumption" (tuberculosis)b4.

He was buried seven days later in Mendhamc2 He was survived by his wife Frances.
