William Joseph Chambers (1905–1988)

William Joseph (known as Bill) was born on 26 Aug, 1905 in Newbridge in Kildare, Irelanda1, the second son of George Henry Chambers (1867–1923)★, a Sergeant in the Royal Field Artillery, and Louisa Hemmings (1876–1913)★, a general servant. He is Ian's grandfather.

William was recorded in the 1911 census at 8 Joseph Street in Elswick, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Englandb1 with his father George Henry, now a caretaker of laboratory, mother Louisa and six siblings Rebecca, Eileen, Hilda, George Henry, Louisa Alexandra and Helen Mary.

By the time of the 1921 census he was living at 26 Cato Street in Gateshead, County Durham, Englandc1 with his father George Henry, now an unemployed caretaker and six siblings Eileen, Hilda, a grocer's assistant, George Henry, a wagon man, Louisa Alexandra, Helen Mary and Francis Patrick.

He married Florence Hall (1912–1996)★ on 20 Apr, 1935 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Westmorland Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Englandd1 . They went on to have five children:–
