Before they moved to Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, on my father's retirement in 1971 my parents often used to entertain their relatives to evenings of dinner and cards. Mainly it was mum and dad's married children and mum's sisters Peggy and Tizzi who visited - dad seems to have virtually ignored his side of the family. At these get-togethers, which took place at 96, Priory Court, Priory Road, East Ham, London, we occasionally discussed the family's origins. I still have a tape recording of one of these gatherings, made around 1967, when this subject came up.
