Dinah Peak (1888–1959)

Dinah was born on 31 Dec, 1888 at 21 New Benton Way in Wallsend, Northumberland, Englanda1,b1, the daughter of Thomas Turner Peak (1859–1931)★, a stonemason, and Elizabeth Hinksman (1862–1937)★. She was baptised as an infant on 16 Jan, 1889 at St. Peter's Church in Wallsend, Northumberland, Englandc1. She is Ian's great grandmother.

Dinah was recorded in the 1891 census at 5 Wright Street in Cowpen, Horton, Northumberland, Englandd1 with her father Thomas Turner, now a rivetter and boiler maker, mother Elizabeth and four siblings John Richard, Elizabeth Jane, Mary Ann and Margery Todd.

By the time of the 1901 census she was living at 126 Hambledon Street in Blyth, Northumberland, Englande1,e1 with her father Thomas Turner, now a boilermaker, mother Elizabeth and seven siblings John Richard, an apprentice boilermaker, Elizabeth Jane, an apprentice dressmaker, Mary Ann, an apprentice dressmaker, Margery Todd, Rebecca, Septina and Thomas Turner.

She married James William Hall (1888–1959)★, a caulker boilermaker, on 30 May, 1908 at The Register Office in Tynemouth, Northumberland, Englanda2 . They went on to have six children:–

  • Norman born on 21 May, 1909 at 22 Gladstone Street in Blyth, Northumberland, Englanda3. Married (living or recently deceased person) in 1933 in the registration district of Newcastle upon Tyne in Northumberland, England and (person born in the 1910s) in 1942 in the registration district of Brighton in Sussex, England. Died in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1985 in the registration district of Hove in Sussex, England at the age of seventy-six.
  • Elizabeth (known as Tizzie) born on 21 Oct, 1910 at 1 Vernon Place in Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland, Englanda4. Married James Hall in 1932 in Newcastle upon Tynef1 and Lawrence McKeown in 1943 in the registration district of Surrey Mid-Eastern in Surrey, Englandf2. Died on 4 Jan, 1987 in Epsom in Surrey, England at the age of seventy-six.
  • Florence★ (known as Flo) born on 29 May, 1912 at 100 Poplar Street in Ashington, Bothal Demesne, Northumberland, Englanda5. Married William Chambers★ on 20 Apr, 1935 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Westmorland Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Englanda6. Died on 3 Jun, 1996 in Crowstone House in Southend on Sea, Essex, England at the age of eighty-four.
  • Margaret (known as Peggy) baptised on 18 Jan, 1914 in the parish of Elswick in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Englandc2. Married Arthur Cox in 1932 in the registration district of Edmonton in Essex, Englandf3, Ronald Percival Turl in 1952 in the registration district of Wood Green in Essex, Englandf4 and (living or recently deceased person) in 1974 in the registration district of Enfield in Greater London, England. Died in the Jan-Mar quarter of 1980 in Enfield at the age of sixty-six.
  • Lilian Emma (known as Lily) born on 4 Dec, 1915 at 297 Scotswood Road in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, Englanda7. Died by own hand in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1952 in Edmonton at the age of thirty-seven.
  • James William (known as Jimmy), air mechanic, baptised on 13 May, 1917 in Elswickc3. Killed in action on 10 Jan, 1941 aboard the H.M.S. Illustriousg1,h1,k1 at the age of twenty-three. He had no children.

By the time of the 1921 census she was living at 297 Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tynep1 with her husband James William, now a riveter, boiler making, steel, copper and six children Florence Hall, Norman, Elizabeth, Margaret Hall, Lilian Emma Hall and James William Hall.

She was recorded in the 1939 census at Epsom College in Epsom, Surrey, England. Dinah is working as a cook at Epsom College in Surrey. She declared herself to be a widow although she was still married to James who was working in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Dinah died at the age of seventy on 16 Nov, 1959 at "F" Flat, Patterdale House, Patterdale Road in Blyth, Northumberland, Englanda8. Her death was attributed to "congestive heart failure"a8.
