He married Dinah Peak (1888–1959)★ on 30 May, 1908 at The Register Office in Tynemouth, Northumberland, Englanda2 . They went on to have six children:–

  • Norman born on 21 May, 1909 at 22 Gladstone Street in Blyth, Northumberland, Englanda3. Married (living or recently deceased person) in 1933 in the registration district of Newcastle upon Tyne in Northumberland, England and (person born in the 1910s) in 1942 in the registration district of Brighton in Sussex, England. Died in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1985 in the registration district of Hove in Sussex, England at the age of seventy-six.

James died at the age of seventy on 22 Feb, 1959 at Benham Hospital in Gateshead, County Durham, Englanda8. His death was attributed to "cardial thrombosis"a8.

He was survived by his wife Dinah, a cook, school sanatorum.
