She was baptised as a child on 19 Nov, 1848 at St. Hilda's Church in South Shields St. Hilda, County Durham, Englandb1,c1. She is Ian's 3x great grandmother.

Dinah was recorded in the 1851 census at Union Road in North Shields, Northumberland, Englandd1 with her mother Elizabeth, a seamans wife and three siblings Elizabeth Jennings, Rebecca Jennings and Jemima.

She married John Peak (1838–1900)★, a forgeman, on 19 Jul, 1858 at the age of sixteen in the parish of South Shields in County Durham, Englanda2 and went on to have seven children with him:–

  • John died in infancy. Born on 19 Jan, 1862 at Middle Street in North Shields, Northumberland, Englanda5 and died there on 31 Jan, 1862a6.
  • John baptised on 25 Dec, 1862 in the parish of Tynemouth Holy Trinity in Tynemouth, Northumberland, Englandf1. Died in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1920 in the registration district of Tynemouth in Northumberland, England at the age of fifty-eight.

She was buried in Jan 1900 in Preston Cemetery in Tynemouth, Northumberland, Englandr1 She was survived by her husband John.

On the anniversary of Dinah's death her daughter Rebecca wrote a poem which she placed in the memorial section of the Shields Daily News: We oft times think we hear her footsteps, We look around, but she is not there; Ah! no, she has gone and left us, Here stands her empty chair. Sleep on, dear mother, thy toil is o'er, Thy willing hands shall toil no more; Life was desired, but God thought best To take thee to eternal rest.q1
