Research Notes
Not sure about Alice’s origins. Many people have associated her with the baptism of an Alice Ord in South Shields in 1732, parents John Ord and Ann Cowper. However there are a couple of Ord families resident in Earsdon at the right time, although there is no trace of the baptism of an Alice in that parish.
Key to the family are Christoper Ourd (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/M32J-RKP) and Elizabeth Shield, married in Earsdon in 1669. They had at least 8 children in Earsdon, with three sons John (1678), William (1684) and Richard (1687). William (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/M32Z-Z95) married Mary Hall in 1707 and went on to have about 11 children including Mary (1723) who married John Laws and then James Crammond, and lastly Robert (1726). Mary Hall would have been 48 at this time so it is unlikely but not impossible that she could have had another child by 1730.
In Earsdon there is a William Ord (1696) and James Ourd (1704) both sons of William Ourd, possibly a brother of Christopher. There doesn’t seem to be any further information on them
