He married Susannah Dennis (1785–1841)★ on 1 Jan, 1807 at St. Mary's Church in Great Baddow, Essex, Englandb1 . They had eleven children:–

By the time of the 1851 census he was living in Great Baddows1 with his daughter Emma, an at home.

In the 1861 census he was living in Great Baddowt1 with his daughter Emma, now a housekeeper.

John died at the age of eighty-two on 20 Jun, 1868 in Great Baddowf4. His death was attributed to "natural decay" (death through old age)f4.

He was buried four days later in Great Baddow
