Jane was born on 15 Oct, 1868 at Stow Hill in Newport, Monmouthshire, Walesa1, the only known daughter of Daniel Palmer (1843–?), a journeyman shoemaker, and Bridget Dineen (1842–1898)★, a house servant. She was baptised as an infant on 4 Dec, 1868 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stow Hill, Newport, Monmouthshire, Walesb1. She is Ian's great great aunt.

Jane was recorded in the 1871 census at Nailers Lane in Risca, Monmouthshire, Walesc1.

By the time of the 1881 census she was living at Blackvein Row in Lower Machen, Machen, Monmouthshire, Walesd1 with her mother Bridget and five siblings Louisa Hemmings (1876–1913)★, Francis Hemmings (1873–1916), Rosearia Hemmings (1878–1964), Helena Hemmings (1880–1973) and John Bryan (1865–?), a haulier.

She married Alfred Harvey (1864–1955), an engine stoker, on 4 Sep, 1888 at The Register Office in Newport, Monmouthshire, Walesa2.

Jane was recorded in the 1891 census at Near Colliery in Mynyddyslwyn, Monmouthshire, Walese1 with her husband Alfred Harvey, now a stationary engine driver.

By the time of the 1901 census she was living at 60 Tredegar Street in Cross Keys, Mynyddyslwyn, Monmouthshire, Walesf1 with her husband Alfred Harvey, now a colliery engine driver and half-brother John.

Jane died at the age of eighty-seven on 8 Aug, 1956 in Monmouthshire in Walesg1

Comments

On her marriage certificate she stated her father to be George Palmer. However her father Daniel died while she was very young and she never knew him. Having met her descendants and seen her family bible I’m confident of the relationship and believe she was simply unaware of her father’s name.
