Jane Peak, a keeper of a cook shop in Dortwick-street, was also summmoned by the police for allowing women of improper character to assemble in her house. On the police visiting the defendant's shop on Monday night about half-past eleven o'clock, they found several women of improper character there. Defendant at first denied that the women were in her shop, but afterwards she admitted it, and alleged that they were getting something to eat. She pleaded ignorance as to their character, and produced to the bench, a document purporting to be the marriage lines of one of the women. She was fined 5s and costs.
