By the time of the 1851 census he was living in Greens Nortonc1 with his wife Ann, a lacemaker and two children Joseph, an agricultural labourer and Ann, a lacemaker.

In the 1861 census he was living in Greens Nortond1 with his wife Ann.

John was recorded in the 1871 census in Greens Nortone1 with his daughter Ann.

John died at the age of seventy-seven on 16 Apr, 1873 in Greens Nortonf1. His death was attributed to "senile decay" (death through old age, possibly including dementia)f1.

He was buried three days later at St. Bartholomews Church, Greens Nortona4
