He married Karen Andrine Arvesdatter (1850–?)★ on 29 Mar, 1878 in the parish of Svarstad in Lardal, Vestfold, Norway^a1 . They had five children:–

• Hanna Mathilde born on 28 Feb, 1878 in the parish of Lardal in Vestfold, Norway. Died on 11 Oct, 1952 at the age of seventy-four.
• Nils baptised on 23 Oct, 1881 in Svarstad^a2.
• Nilsine★ baptised on 1 Jul, 1883 in Svarstad^a3. Married Laurits Kristian Larsen★ on 26 Jun, 1904 in the parish of Larvik in Vestfold, Norway^b1,b2. Died in 1963 in Svarstad at the age of eighty.
• Amalia born in 1886 in Lardal.
• Magna Karoline born on 27 Apr, 1891 in Lardal. Died in 1956 at the age of sixty-five.

Martin died at the age of eighty-four in 1937 at Dalen in Herland, Lardal, Vestfold, Norway and was buried on 29 Mar, 1878 in Svarstad^a1
