Family History

I noticed that Ancestry have added scans of the Gwent Workhouse Registers from 1833 to 1957 so I took a brief look to see what I could find.

I found Daniel Dineen and Mary Nighan and family in the Newport - Woolaston House Admission and Discharge Registers for the week ending 25 Feb 1848. They all belonged to Caerleon parish and were admitted since Daniel was unable to work, due to “weakness”. They were all catholic and born in the following years: Daniel (1911), Mary (1814), Johanna (1839), Brigt (1842) and Dennis 18441

I also found the admission of Martha Deeneen (born 1846) and her daughter Priscilla (b. 1877). They were admitted due to the desertion of Martha’s husband Dennis Deeneen. They were recorded as Wesleyans. Martha seems to be Martha Priscilla Watkins but the year of her daughter’s birth is different to the year we already have from the census: 1880.

I also found a record of vaccination given to Helena Hemmings in 1880. Is lists her father as Joseph Hemming, deceased. She was born at Pontymister on 17 Jul 1880.
