I received a couple of messages on Ancestry from JC:
Hi Ian, I am researching a William Snowling born Suffolk abt 1796 who was transported to Australia on ship Surrey(4) 1823 with 14 year sentence. Is this the same fellow you are researching? Joy
she followed up with:
Great to hear from you Ian, I am pretty sure this is the William Snowling who had a daughter with my GGGGrandmother, Mary Piper, before she was married. At the time he was assigned to Thomas Raine, in 1824 he was in charge of the grazing run forty miles from Bathurst at the head of Native Dog Creek . There is a birth of a daughter, Anna Matilda Snowdon 27th March 1829, child of William Snowdon,Employment Assigned Stockman to Captain Raine, and Mary Piper mother . The child was baptised by Rev.J.E.keane,10 May 1829 Church of England Bathurst/Kelso Parish. Mary Piper married John Jones on 17 Dec 1829 at Church of England Bathurst/Kelso by Rev.John Espy Keane. I can find no record of what happend to either the child Anna Matilda or her father William - I will have a look at your tree and get back to you.
I sent some information about William and his family.
