Family History

Today we made some progress with finding out more about George Tew’s father Thomas. We confirmed that Thomas married Ann Turvey but we also discovered that he was a widower when he married her and that he had previously been married to a Lydia Fetters or Fletcher. George Tew’s mother was Lydia but the rest of his siblings are the children of Ann and Thomas.

Lydia died in 1826, a year or so after George was born. Thomas then married Ann in 1830. All these events took place in Shalston or just over the border in Whitfield, Northamptonshire. There is some confusion over Lydia’s name. Early on she, her parents and her siblings are recorded as Fetters but later on it has become Fletcher. There are a few early record transcriptions that use the name Fletcher but they are Fetters in the censuses.

We also spent some time organising the Tew baptisms, marriages and burials from Shalstone, as found on findmypast.com
