While reading through some of Jeff’s old research diaries I stumbled over some Hinksman information that has new relevance. Jeff was speculating that Jane’s parents were Edward Hinksman and Susan Liffen who married in Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1806. I spotted that the witnesses were William and Jane Hinksman. The marriage I found for Jane in 1839 to William Rouse listed her father as William. Surely there must be a connection here. Possibly William and Edward were brothers.

Jeff’s diary goes on to list a large number of entries for William and Edward in the muster rolls. The earliest entry for William is as follows:

William Hinksman recruited into Regiment (or 1st Battalion) 28 July 1799 as private. There is a note saying “N3 from private Sth Hants”.
